The AAMA 502 test is intended for newly installed operable fenestration products, such as windows, doors, and skylights. It relies on ASTM E1105 (water penetration) to assess the performance of these components in the field.
How the test is performed:
Newly installed windows, doors, and skylights are selected for field testing. Locations are typically nominated by the project architect, façade engineer, or certifier.
A sealed test chamber is temporarily affixed to the interior side of the fenestration product to allow controlled air pressure application.
While maintaining the specified air pressure, water is sprayed on the exterior surface at a calibrated rate (typically 3.4L/min/m²). The interior is monitored for signs of water ingress.
Any leakage is recorded, and results are compared against performance criteria. A formal report is issued detailing compliance, observations, and recommendations.
Why you need it
Detect Leaks Before They Become Problems
Protect Against Future Water Damage

When to use it
Post-installation of operable windows and doors
As part of handover or commissioning
To validate compliance with project specifications
